Software Engineer

  • id3 software
  • Milan, Italy (hybrid)
  • Full-time

We are not hiring for this role right now. Send your CV anyway: we read every application and get in touch when a position opens.

The role

Join the team that develops id3, our software suite for drilling. id3 runs computationally intense drilling calculations and turns them into data-driven insights, predictions and clear visualisations for large multinational companies.

You will work on the backend, the frontend or both: the services that process drilling data, including real-time rig feeds, the web applications drilling teams use every day, and the AI features built into them. You will work with our developers, data scientists, consultants and clients.

Our stack: Python (FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy) for most services, and C# and .NET for some; TypeScript and React with Vite and Highcharts on the frontend; PostgreSQL, Redis and RabbitMQ. Everything runs in Docker on Kubernetes, deployed with Helm on AWS and Azure through Bitbucket Pipelines.

What you will do

  • Design, build and maintain id3 services and web applications, from data ingestion to dashboards.
  • Write clean, typed and tested code, and review your colleagues' code.
  • Ship through CI/CD and keep services healthy in production with our monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki).
  • Turn drilling problems into features, together with consultants, data scientists and clients.
  • Write technical documentation in English.

What we look for

  • Experience building backend services or web applications in Python, TypeScript or C#.
  • Good knowledge of REST APIs and relational databases (SQL, ideally PostgreSQL).
  • Confidence with Git, code reviews and automated tests.
  • Familiarity with Docker.
  • Curiosity for new technologies and a wish to keep learning.
  • Good written and spoken English.

Bonus points for:

  • FastAPI, Pydantic and SQLAlchemy, or React with TypeScript and Vite.
  • .NET (ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework Core).
  • Kubernetes and Helm, on AWS or Azure.
  • RabbitMQ, Redis, and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana and OpenTelemetry.
  • Using AI coding assistants effectively in your daily work.
  • Interest in the energy sector or in drilling data standards such as WITSML.
