A major European oil and gas operator found it hard to spread a common risk management practice across its projects. Drawing on its experience, kwantis proposed a complete reorganization of the process to make it easier to use and add more value.
The challenge
The operator already had procedures, tools and templates for project risk management, but it had difficulty disseminating a common practice among its projects.
Our approach
- Gap analysis: kwantis first ran a gap analysis to improve the Project Risk Management process, making the best of the existing resources (procedures, tools, templates and others).
- Rationalization: the existing procedures were merged, rationalized and enhanced with a “toolkit” that makes them easier to apply.
- Software support: the process uses Primavera Risk Analysis for probabilistic time and cost estimates.
The outcome
kwantis presented the new process at the Annual Total E&P Risk Workshop in 2013 and 2014. It was acknowledged as one of the best guidelines in terms of usability, graphics and clarity.
